As the rowing season comes to a close, we've been trying to squeeze in a few more adventures. We had beautiful rowing weather and were able to go to the first of three forts in the mouth of the harbor. Construction of this artificial island was started in the 18th century by sinking several ships and building on top of them. It is now a park much like other old military posts (it reminded me of the Marin headlands in California and Awaroa/Godley Head in New Zealand).
